A £2 million valuation in the Den is an aggressive opening. The moment a founder attaches that kind of number to a company, especially one without the revenue to obviously support it, the dragons sharpen their knives. Defending a rich valuation against a panel of professional investors who do this for a living is one of the hardest things a founder can attempt on the show.
Sometimes the swagger is earned. A company with millions in sales and real margins can walk in at a rich valuation and back every pound of it, and when that happens the dragons fall in line fast. Far more often the high number is aspirational, and the pitch becomes a master class in the dragons taking apart a valuation the founder could not justify.
